Spain (85km)

The Spanish border is one hour away by motorway (Béhobie, Irun)

Béhobie

A commercial zone for buying Spanish products.

Hondarribia (Fontarabie in French)

The old fortified town (historic monument) is built on a headland overlooking the estuary, across from Hendaye in France.

At the top of the old town, in the centre, there are some lovely houses with wrought iron balconies, surrounded by the old ramparts. This is where the castle sits, now restored and made into a hotel.

We recommend you take the little shuttle boat to Hondarribia (Fontarabie in French) which leaves every 15 minutes from Hendaye marina.

Saint Sébastien

1 hour 20 by road, a town to visit.

Climb Mont Urgull, in the middle of town, to enjoy the only point in Saint-Sébastien with a view of the three beaches and admire the vestiges of the ramparts and canons, which bear witness to the town's military past.

Visit the port and walk around the Old Town to enjoy the famous pintxos (tapas) and markets like La Bretxa.

Visit La Plaza de la Constitución, in the centre of the Old Town, and try to find out why the balconies have numbers. In fact, these numbers refer to stands in the arenas, in times gone by, which are now houses.

We recommend a coffee on a terrace on Plaza Zuloaga, home of Musée Sant Telmo which guards the secrets of the Basque culture.
